Rob Hellyer and Matt Van Galen propel Rock offence in victory

Oakville, ON – The Oakville Rock (4-3) were looking for a bounce-back performance after falling 11-6 to the Cobourg Kodiaks on Sunday night.  A night later, the Rock offence responded, rolling over the Brooklin Lacrosse Club (0-6) with an 11-5 victory at the TRAC in Oakville, ON.

Oakville’s Ryan Smith got the party started just 40 seconds into the contest, giving the Rock an early 1-0 advantage.  Nick Rose was brilliant in the early going, turning aside all 15 shots he faced in the opening 20 minutes.  Oakville added three more to close out the period with a 4-0 lead.

Just over three minutes into the second period, the Rock’s Rob Hellyer fired one past Riley Hutchcraft in the Brooklin goal, pushing the score to 5-0 for the home side. Brooklin responded with three of their own, pulling to within two of the Rock, down 5-3.  Oakville added four more, including a natural hat trick by Matt Van Galen and another one by Rob Hellyer to take a healthy six-goal cushion into the final frame.

In the third period, Brooklin snuck two past Nick Rose cutting the lead to 9-5.  Rob Hellyer found the net twice more, finishing with four goals and two assists for a six-point outing.  Nick Rose shut the door the rest of the way, finishing the game with 39 saves.

The Rock will be back in action on Monday, June 24th at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre when they host the Brampton Excelsiors.  Fans can watch every game this season live on lacrosse-tv.com.
