Oakville Beats Six Nations 12-9 In Opener

by Mike Hancock

The Oakville Rock opened the MSL Classic with a 12-9 victory over the Six Nations Chiefs on Tuesday night at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre (TRAC) in Oakville, ON.  The Rock will play again on Thursday night against the Owen Sound Lacrosse Club, an 8pm ET start at the TRAC.

Brandon Slade opened the scoring for the Rock, his first of three on the night, and Oakville never looked back.  Leading 4-1 after the first quarter, the Rock kept filling the net to take an 8-5 lead at the half.

With Oakville up 9-7 after three quarters, the Rock scored the first three goals of the fourth quarter to build a 12-7 lead.  Steven Portelli netted Oakville's 12th and final goal of the evening and it might have been the prettiest.  Henry Follows fired a perfect pass to Portelli, who had gained some separation from his defender to find the Follows pass, and delivered a quick stick finish into the Chiefs goal.  It was poetry in motion.  The Chiefs added a pair late in the quarter to round out the scoring.

The fans in attendance and those watching online were treated to some great lacrosse on night one of the MSL Classic.  The great news is, we've got 14 more nights of incredible lacrosse to come over the next four and a half weeks.  Join us at the TRAC or watch us online, but don't ya dare miss it!
