Nick Rose shines, as the Oakville defence shuts down the Lakers offence

Oakville, ON – The Oakville Rock (10-7) ran over the Peterborough Lakers (13-4) by a score of 10-4 on Monday night at the TRAC.  The win was the third in a row for the Rock who had already clinched third place in the MSL standings with a convincing 13-6 road win over Brampton on Sunday.

The Rock roared out of the gate with six unanswered goals in the opening period. Leading the scoring charge was Andrew Kew, picking up a natural hat trick. Rob Hellyer, Jeremy Noble, Challen Rogers and Trevor Smyth each picked up single makers. Nick Rose kept the Lakers offence off the board, turning aside all 10 shots he faced in the opening period, giving Oakville a commanding 6-0 lead after one.

In the second period, both teams exchanged single tallies. Trevor Smyth pushed the Oakville lead to 7-0 before the Lakers’ Holden Cattoni finally broke through, beating Nick Rose at the 17:34 mark, making the score 7-1 after 40 minutes.

In the final frame, Andrew Kew continued his offensive dominance, firing home his fourth goal of the night and extending the Rock lead to 8-1. Kyle Buchanan answered right back, just 34 seconds later giving the Lakers some life. Dan Craig and Brandon Slade each picked up goals putting the Rock up 10-2. Turner Evans and Shawn Evans added late ones in the last minute of play, making the final score 10-4. Nick Rose was brilliant all night long, finishing the night with 39 saves keeping the Lakers at shore.

These two clubs will do it all over again on Thursday, August 1st at the Evinrude Centre to close out the MSL regular season. Fans can watch every game this season live on lacrosse-tv.com.
